Vang Go Bistro Brings the Kung Fu Kitchen Experience to Ghent

While it’s the first location and concept of its kind, Vang Go Bistro founder Evan Vang is no stranger to the restaurant world. From dishwasher to Director of Operations, he’s kept both hands and heart deep in the work—always with an eye on one day owning a space of his own. Well, the universe hears all, and just a few days ago, we got to witness the manifestation of that long-held dream.

Vang Go Bistro now lives in the heart of Norfolk’s Ghent neighborhood—a blossoming community full of local gems, and Vang Go fits right in with its bold flavors, cultural fusion, and inviting energy.

The Menu

We’ve had the pleasure of being fans since our first encounter with Evan—back when we were planning our wedding, and he was a regular pop-up at our host hotel, the VB Moxy. A few favorites from those early tastings made it onto the menu in their full glory:

  • Kimchi Fried Rice: A crave-worthy blend of kimchi, black and white sesame seeds, green onions, and chili oil.

  • Chicken Crispy Vang Rolls: Spring rolls filled with sticky rice, red and yellow bell peppers, carrots, green onions, and Cajun seasoning.

  • Shrimp Tempura Tacos: A new try for us, and an instant hit—lightly battered shrimp, topped with pickled red onions, ancho crema, and cotija.

The Cocktails

I sipped on the Pear 75, their delicious spin on a French 75—and I’ll admit, I clung to it all night. My husband happily claimed the “Smoked New Fashioned” as his go-to. Of course, I had to take my obligatory wife tax sip, and yep—it was as smooth and smoky as advertised. Other sips on the menu included the Go Rita, Tokyo Geisha, and Sumin Sweet. I wouldn’t be surprised if their bartenders have already dreamed up even more for your next visit.

The Future

As I type this, Vang Go Bistro is celebrating its official ribbon-cutting—marking the beginning of something truly special. Every late-night brainstorm, every blog post (yes, Evan once shared his journey through blogging, and I’m hoping he brings that storytelling back), and every “someday” conversation has led to this.

Now, thanks to the help of creative collaborators, supportive friends, and a can’t-miss-it red front door, Vang Go Bistro: The Kung Fu Kitchen Experiment invites us all to step into a realized dream—and taste the vision.
